In class on Monday, students updated their last grade tracker of the semester, then we continued with our Home Furnishing Shopping List and then our Home Furnishings Costs worksheet. 

 

After, we celebrated our final Top 5 of the semester:  Melissa, Daniel C, Emily, Julio, and Jocelyn.  Congrats and keep up the hard work.

In class on Friday, students finished their Car Insurance Cost Calculations worksheet and then calculated their total transportation monthly budget before getting their stamps.

 

At the end of class students received their WS: Home Furnishings Shopping List so they could start listing items/furniture that they would need in each room of their home.

In class on Tuesday, students earned a stamp on the WS: Auto Loan Prequalification and Car Selection, then they began their WS: Auto Loan Financing

In class on Monday, students earned points for their calendar, then we completed our Grade Trackers, and then continued with our Auto Loan Prequalification and Selection worksheet.

No classes were held on Thursday due to the iReady Block Testing Schedule.

In class on Wednesday, some students finished their iReady testing, then we stamped page 141 after the car rental comparison was complete, then we completed WS: Computing Rental Charges.  We will finish and stamp on Friday.

 

Due to iReady Testing block schedule, we will not have class tomorrow.

In class on Tuesday, students completed the iReady Diagnostic Test in our 2-hour block schedule for periods 1/3/5.  Testing must be finished by Friday in order to get the Aeries grade for it.  

In class on Friday, students completed their Unit 6 TOC grade reflections, then we set up Unit 7: Transportation.  We completed and stamped the Types of Transportation worksheet and then began our Car Rental exploration.

In class on Thursday, absent students made up their Unit 6 Test Corrections and then we brain-stormed Types of Transportation and then were assigned different types to do cost research for.

In class on Wednesday, students completed their Unit 6 Test Corrections in 3 columns in order to earn half of their missing test points back.

In class on Monday, students earned their points for the past two weeks homework stamps, then students logged into iReady to complete the last lesson/quiz before next week's iReady Diagnostic Testing.  Please have your GIST summary ready to be stamped by tomorrow.

In class on Friday, students studied and/or prepped notebooks before turning them in and then completing the Unit 6 Test.

In class on Thursday, students worked towards finishing their Mortgage and Escrow worksheets and made time to organize their notebooks to prepare for grading tomorrow.  

 

Please study the quizzes for this unit, as well as the renting versus buying, steps of the home buying process and mortgage work in order to prepare for the unit 6 test.

In class on Wednesday, students updated their TOCs, completed Earnings Statement 8 and wrapped up their home selection and shopping for a mortgage worksheets.  Please work toward finishing the Escrow Loan Estimate Form so we can prepare for the Unit 6 Test on Friday.

In class on Monday, students logged into Aeries to update their grade trackers.  Then students completed the Worksheet: Grade Analysis by recording all of their quiz/test scores from this semester and listing all red-coded missing assignments.

After, students continued with their home selection and shopping for a mortgage

In class on Thursday, students continued their home selection to earn a stamp only if they came under the 35% housing budget.  Once the housing budget was met, students received the Worksheet: Shopping for a Mortgage.  

In class on Monday, students continued with their Home Selection Worksheet and reported their home sales price and budget percentage before dismissal.  Your goal is to meet the 35% budget maximum for monthly housing costs.

In class on Friday, 11th grade students and I worked on the CAASPP Math Practice Test (14-17) and the other students continued with the CAASPP Science Practice Test.  

In class on Thursday, students completed Earnings Statement 7 and then we began our CAASPP Science Practice Test.  Show your work for each problem and turn it in for extra credit points by 4/26.

In class on Wednesday, juniors continued with the CAASPP practice math test and we completed (6-13).  

 

Others worked on the science practice test on the CAASPP website.  

In class on Tuesday, 11th grade students worked on the CAASPP Practice Test for ELA, 12th graders continued the CAASPP Practice Test for Science, and all others worked on make up work.

In class on Tuesday, students completed their Video Notes: Understanding Different Types of Mortgages after watching the video linked in the notes page.

In class on Monday, students earned points for the last homework calendar, the logged into aeries and completed their grade trackers, then logged into iReady to complete a GIST summary.  

 

 

In class on Friday, students completed Cornell Notes: 12 Steps of the Home Buying Process by watching the video listed on the notes paper.  After, students processed their notes with study questions and a 5 sentence summary.

Wednesday was our first day back in the classroom after Spring Break, and we got our new Quarter 4 seating arrangements.  Then, we followed our traditional "Monday" schedule.

In class on Thursday, we paused our lessons to enjoy the Pi Day Activity.  Worksheets were turned in for on time credit before dismissal.   

 

 

In class on Wednesday, students completed their rental agreement and lease agreements for on time stamps.  After, students completed the Quiz: Living on Your Own, then we compared utility bills to our research from last week.

In class, students organized unit 6 into their notebooks.  Then we completed the worksheets reviewing rental and lease agreements.

In class on Monday, we counted the calendar stamps from the past two weeks, then students started a new calendar.  Students logged into Aeries to update their Grade Trackers.  After, students logged into iReady to complete their next lesson and quiz and a Learning Log for it (with notes on the back) is due tomorrow.

In class on Friday, students worked together to brainstorm into a bubble map all of the different costs of living.  Then students created one bubble by doing research to find the average costs associated with their category.  Please have yours ready to be turned in on Monday.

In class on Thursday, we stamped your Tues/Weds calendars, then collected both worksheets: Dream Location Rental Research and Utilities Cost Research.  After, students received their Unit 5 Tests back and completed 3 Column Test Corrections to earn half of their missing points back.

In class on Tuesday, students earned turned in yesterday's iReady GIST Summary and WS: Rental Cost Comparisons (High Desert) from for on time credit.  Then students did online research to fill in the WS: Dream Location Rental Research Comparison by locating a dream home rental within 50 miles from their work location and within their 35% housing budget.

In class on Friday, students completed the WS: Rental Cost Comparison (High Desert) by doing research using the listed online search engines.  This will be collected on Monday.

In class on Thursday, we discussed housing options and then students researched the pros and cons of Renting V Buying a home while filling out a Venn Diagram.  Work was collected before dismissal for on time credit.

In class on Wednesday, students prepared notebooks for grading then turned them in for on time credit, then they completed the Unit 5 Test on Banking and Budgeting.

In class, students filled out their 4th earnings statement for a stamp, then we finished our Notes of Credit for a stamp.  After, we completed our WS: Budget Estimations and turned them in as a pass out of class.

In class on Monday, students earned stamps for Friday's homework calendar, then we added up their total stamps from the past two weeks (2/11/19 to 2/22/19).  After, they completed their grade trackers, then logged into iReady for another Lesson and passing quiz score.  A GIST summary needs to be completed in the notebook for a stamp tomorrow.

In class on Friday, we continued with WS: Using Credit Cards by calculating pay off amounts, then stamped the worksheet.  After, we filled in the guided notes on Credit Reports and Credit Scores.  We will finish this next week.

In class on Wednesday, students turned in yesterday's learning log, updated their TOCs, completed their Quiz Corrections, and then prepared their notebooks for grading (since they are due on Friday at the earliest tentative Unit 5 Test date).

In class on Wednesday, students turned in their Learning Logs from yesterday's iReady and then updated their TOC before completing Earnings Statement 3.  After, we reviewed and posted our two interest calculations from Thursday and compared our results before stamping the Interest Venn Diagram. 

 

In class on Tuesday, students earned stamps on last week's homework calendar for Thursday and Friday, then I added up all of the stamps for the past two weeks.  Then, students started a new calendar.

 

After, students completed their Grade Trackers using Aeries and then logged into iReady to complete their next lesson/quiz.  Students will complete a Learning Log based on this topic and it is due tomorrow.

Friday was a sub day, students were to complete their 6th iReady lesson/quiz and turn in a GIST summary based on their lesson before dismissal.

In class on Wednesday, we shared facts from the W2 video in groups and then completed our W2 Forms for 2018 for a stamp.  Before dismissal, students began researching Simple Versus Compound Interest to fill in their Venn Diagram worksheets.  We will continue working on this venn diagram tomorrow.

In class on Monday, students earned a stamp for last Friday's homework calendar and then we added up the total stamps so far (each student should have 9 calendar stamps).  Then students logged into iReady to complete their next lesson and quiz (must pass with 70% or higher).  Students re-created the format of the GIST Summary in their notebooks and then completed it based on their lesson/quiz in iReady.  This will be stamped in class tomorrow.  Please finish your iReady lesson before midnight for on-time credit.

In class on Friday, students updated their TOC, stapled in stamped work that was passed back, then earned stamps on their Bank Comparison worksheet if it was completed.  Then, we studied our banking notes and comparisons before taking the Quiz: Banking Basics.

In class on Wednesday, students took notes on Banking Basics from the internet site provided on the cornell note form given in class.  Please finish your notes and add 4 study questions and a 5 sentence summary.  This is due tomorrow at the beginning of class.

In class on Tuesday, students logged in to iReady and found that most were not able to complete lessons as planned.  An iReady learning log was turned in before dismissal.  We will reschedule this iReady Lesson/Quiz assignment.

In class on Tuesday, students received their graded notebooks back and we set up Unit 5: Banking and Budgeting.  Then we reviewed our Federal and State Income Tax worksheet and began to complete our WS: W-4 Forms.  We will continue with this form tomorrow.

In class on Monday, students started their weekly homework calendars.  Then we logged into iReady to complete our next lesson and quiz.  Students were to fill out the GIST Summary while working on their iReady lessons and turn it in before dismissal.

In class on Wednesday, we reviewed our course syllabus and expectations for 2nd semester, then students logged into iReady to complete either the Diagnostic Test 2 (if not done in December) or the next lesson and quiz.  Students were given a Learning Log form before dismissal.  You were to answer each question with a minimum of 7 sentences that have academic vocabulary in order to earn a stamp.

Welcome back students to your second semester!  Monday and Tuesday are Eagle Days and I will see you in class on Wednesday.

Due to Final Exam Block Schedules, no period 1/3/5 classes were held on Tuesday.

In class on Monday, students submitted their Calendars for extra credit and then spent some time studying/prepping the notebook for grading.  Stamps were given on completed work evidence from Friday.  Then we completed the Final Exam.  

In class on Friday, we completed WS: Analyzing Pay Stubs for a stamp as well as WS: Taxes - State Income Tax 1.  The second worksheet will be stamped for on time credit when the notebook is graded.

 

Notebooks are due Monday after the final exam.

In class on Thursday, students received WS: Payroll Deductions and spent time reviewing/correcting their Federal and State Income Taxes Worksheets.  After much effort (and confusion) we will continue again tomorrow.

In class on Wednesday, students re-worked their solutions to WS: Computing Taxes Owed for a stamp before dismissal.  Then students were to re-check their work on the Federal and State Income Tax Worksheets from last Thursday's class.  Once you have verified your work and shown me, you will earn your stamps on each.

In class on Tuesday, students received WS: Reading Tax Tables and we traded and graded it with peers.  In order to earn a stamp before dismissal, students were to highlight each of the correct answers inside of the given tax table.

After, students received their WS: Computing Taxes Owed and  we reviewed the calculation steps necessary to complete the example problem.  Please finish this worksheet before tomorrow's class for a stamp.

In class on Monday, students updated their Grade Trackers, then completed WS: Tip and Tax Worksheet.  

Friday was a sub day. Students were to complete WS: Reading Tax Tables and WS: Computing Taxes Owed and turn them in before dismissal.

In class on Thursday, we stamped yesterday's Cornell notes and then completed WS: Federal Income Taxes and WS: California Income Taxes.  Remember that tomorrow is a Sub Day and so I will stamp these on Monday when I return.  See the attached notes for reference in completing these assignments.

In class on Wednesday, students received their graded notebooks, then completed their Unit 3 TOC Grade Reflection by: calculating their percentage, writing in their letter grade, and highlighting any zero pages.  After, we set up Unit 4: Taxes and Deductions and then finished our Cornell Notes: Taxes and Deductions.

In class on Tuesday, students continued their iReady Diagnostic Test 2.  Those who finish today will receive the on time credit 100 points.  Also, you can earn 10 points of extra credit for showing grade level improvement.

In class on Monday, students updated their grade trackers and had their calendar evidence from last week graded.  Then we logged into iReady to complete the second diagnostic test.  We will finish testing tomorrow.  Goal: improve in at least one math domain by one grade level.

In class on Friday, students turned in their notebooks for grading and then completed the Unit 3 Test in mathspace.  After, students chose to either make up missing assignments or start on Monday's notes for Unit 4.  

 

In class on Thursday, students received stamps on yesterday's work evidence, then updated calendars, then logged into mathspace to complete Practice Unit 3 Test (1-11 all).

In class on Thursday, students earned a stamp for yesterday's work evidence.  Then, we reviewed the 3 examples from the ebook's MS: Wages and Salaries and then students received WS: Estimating Annual Wages.  You must show your work for each problem to earn a stamp, when I return on Monday.

In class on Wednesday, students earned a stamp on their focused notes if they were processed on time.  Then, students received WS: Computing Wages and were to show all of their decimal operation work for each problem.  This will be stamped tomorrow.

After, we logged into mathspace (be sure the curriculum is set to World of Math USA) to complete Focused Notes from the lesson called "Wages and Salaries" in the chapter called "Income."  All notes should have information, examples 1-3 with solutions, highlighter interaction evidence, an EQ, 4 study questions, and a 5 sentence summary on the back.

In class on Wednesday, students continued their work on their career slide show.  Those who require vocational or college education also calculated their loan balances and monthly payments and notified me so I could update my records.  Please be sure to follow the slide show rubric to maximize your score.

In class on Tuesday, students updated their TOC and then received the WS: College Education or Vocational Training Research.  Please research what certificates or degrees are required for your job position.  Then find colleges/schools that offer that program.   On the back side, please search for the total costs for that education and use the finaid website to estimate your monthly student loan payments that begin afterwards.

 

Then students received the Career Unit Slide Show Grading Rubric so they could begin working on this unit's slide show that is due Friday.

Then, we reviewed together how to break down wage estimates and completed WS: Minimum Wage and Salary Calculations for a stamp.  Then students completed their own WS: Mock Wage and Salary Calculations for another stamp.  

 

After class, I did confirm that our current minimum wage rate is $11 per hour.

In class on Thursday, all students logged into iReady to either take the initial diagnostic assessment or complete growth monitoring lessons and quizzes.  Earning a score of 80% or higher ensure that you wont have to repeat the math lesson and quiz.

In class on Wednesday, students updated the TOC and then received Sample Job Interview Questions, we numbered them.  Then students chose 5 from the list of questions and wrote responses for them on page 40 before stapling the questions to the top of the page.

In class on Tuesday, students received their resume drafts and began typing up their final edits.  Please email me to let me know when your final drafts are completed.  After, be sure that you have made up the WS: Career Selection and started your Cover Letter for that job position.

In class on Thursday, students redid their Sample Job Application to fill in missing boxes with NA and sign using blue or black ink.  Then, students continued with their job hunt to fill out their career selection worksheets for late credit.  Other students continued typing up their cover letters for the jobs they found.  Be sure to share the cover letter in google docs with me.

There were no classes on Friday, due to our Annual College and Career Fair.  Also remember there is no School on Monday due to our observance of Indigenous People's Day

Due to PSAT Testing, Wednesday was a sub day.  Students were to complete a Sample Job Application and begin typing a Cover Letter based off of the sample given out by the sub.

In class on Tuesday, students continued their mock job hunt.  Your Career Selection worksheets were due today by the end of day for on time credit.  

In class on Monday, students updated their My Grade Tracker sheet with current math grade and overall GPA, then turned it in for on time credit. Then, students received a peer's resume and graded it using the rubric given out in class.  After these were collected, students continued their job hunt.  Remember to use any of the websites posted on the board on Friday:

In class on Friday, students continued working on their resumes and notified me when it is ready to print.  Then we began our job hunt.  Use the website resources that were written on the board to find information about your mock career for this year in consumer math.

In class on Thursday, students logged into their google docs to continue editing their general resumes.  Once yours is completed, please email me and let me know that I can print your document.

In class on Wednesday, students completed the WS: Venn Diagram Resume vs C.V. and earned a stamp for p. 33.  Then students received their High School Community Service Records back with stamps for completed work, so please update this if you have joined any of our latest sports or extracurricular clubs then staple this to p.32.  Afterwards, students began typing up their resumes by choosing a template first, either in google docs or from the list of sample resumes attached to the previous assignment post.  In order to receive on time credit for starting your resume, you must share the document with me before midnight: [email protected].  

In class on Tuesday, students updated their TOC, then completed this online skills matcher survey:

 

 

List your top 5 career results on page 31 of the notebook, including details about job description, pay, required education, and job outlook. 

 

Then use the following attachments to fill out the venn diagram comparing the similarities and differences between a resume and a CV.

 

 

In class on Monday, students completed their Grade Tracker after checking their Aeries accounts.  Then, students completed either of the following online Career Aptitude Tests:

Then, on page 30, students were to copy down the list of career results and then identify their top 3 career choices and explain why each was a good match to earn a stamp before dismissal.

 

 

In class on Friday, students earned a stamp on their completed Career Evaluation/Research assignment from yesterday.  Then we completed the Career Skills Assessment and finished the Summary and Action Plan.  

 

Due to poor internet connectivity, we did not get to complete the Online Career Aptitude Test.  We will try again on Monday.

In class on Thursday, students completed the career research assignment that was not done on the Sub day.  Please finish your research at home and be ready to earn a stamp on it tomorrow.

Wednesday was a sub day, students were to have completed the career research for your top 3 career cluster results from the Career Cluster Interest Survey packet that was stapled to p.28 of the notebooks.

In class on Tuesday, students updated their TOC to mark the changes to the surveys since not being able to complete our online work.  Then, students received their WS: Results of the RIASEC Test where they were to highlight 5 careers that aligned to their top personality assessment characteristics and explain why each career could be a good fit for them.  

 

If you need to make up the personality assessment (because of our poor wifi connectivity, I will give you a printed handout for p.23 with no late penalty)

In class on Monday, we completed (or attempted to with terrible internet connectivity) to complete the Grade Tracker Graphs and then turned them in.  Students were given the High School and Community Activities Record to fill in any work/leadership experiences from each grade level in high school.  This was turned in for on time credit before dismissal.

Friday was a sub day.  Students were to complete the Career Clusters Interest Survey packet to identify their top 3 career categories.  All work was to be turned in before dismissal.

In class on Wednesday, some students finished their iReady testing, while others caught up on our past week's assignments and turned them in for an on time stamp:

Tuesday was an unexpected Sub Day.  All review worksheets should have been turned in to the sub before dismissal

In class on Monday, students continued with the iReady Diagnostic Math Testing until it was completed.  Afterwards, students had the option to complete a review worksheet.  

In class on Thursday, students began the iReady Diagnostic Test that will take about two class sessions to complete.  Thank you for your attendance and for giving it your best.

 

Make Up Test Days will be announced next week.  Take time to look at your aeries accounts and notebooks to see if there is any missing work that you can make up.

In class on Wednesday, we updated our Unit 2 TOC and then attempted to complete our initial online career assessments, but due to internet connectivity issues, we will replace these with paper versions until iReady Benchmark Testing is complete.  Thank you again for your patience this morning. 

In class on Tuesday, we graded #s 5-11 of the Education Pays packet then stamped it.  After students completed a 1/2 page reflection in writing responding to the questions/prompts attached below.  After stamping that, students prepared their notebooks to be turned in for grading.  Any notebooks turned in after Tuesday will receive late credit 70% for completed work.  

In class on Monday, we recapped the excellent points made during Friday's Career vs College discussion.  Then we reviewed the Education Pays handout to familiarize ourselves with reading earnings data from the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics, and after we completed the WS: The Value of a High School Diploma.  Students were to finish the last page's #s 5-11 with their group before asking for a stamp. 

In class on Friday, students completed a grade reflection using aeries, then we finished our group research on pros and cons of choosing to start careers vs college first.  After this was stamped, we participated in a class philosophical chairs discussion.

In class on Thursday, students completed a Math Review Worksheet to recall their multiplication facts as well as their common decimal/fraction/percent equivalents.  Afterwards, students began working in their groups to research online and discuss the pros and cons of either starting a career right after high school or starting with college.  Remember to record 3 statements per pro and con column.

In class on Wednesday, we finished our Decimals Quiz Corrections, then earned a stamp.  Then we completed the Money Notations and Writing Review worksheet by writing each money amount in cursive writing for a stamp.

In class on Tuesday, students with organized notebooks earned some extra credit.  Then we traded and graded the Decimals Quiz.  After, students completed 3 Column Corrections for any mistakes made on their quiz.  

In class on Friday, we stamped the WS: Multiplication of Decimals and then took our Quiz on Decimal Operations.

No School on Monday due to the observance of Labor Day.  See you all Tuesday in full uniform.

In class on Thursday, we collected syllabus parent signature forms then completed the WS: Subtraction of Decimals.  After, we completed WS: Multiplication of Decimals.  Be sure to review our decimal operations worksheets to prepare for tomorrow's quiz.

In class on Wednesday, we reviewed our syllabus on pages 3 and 4.  Highlighter interaction evidence will be stamped tomorrow.  We also passed back the Rounding Money Quiz and completed Quiz Corrections in 3 Column Analysis for a stamp before dismissal.  

In class on Tuesday, students set up unit 1 of the notebook as I stamped completed Author's Pages and Cursive Alphabet Letter Practice.  Then, students wrote a Letter of Reference for a close friend by writing 2 paragraphs (5 sentence minimum for each paragraph) in cursive writing.  Be sure to sign the letter at the bottom with your own cursive signature.  Completed letters were stamped before dismissal.

In class on Monday, students finished setting up their Aeries accounts, then we completed our Author's Page and WS: Cursive Alphabet Practice.

 

 

Please view the attached Table of Contents and copy it down.  Then locate all of your stamped work evidence and glue/staple all work into each page onto the correct page number in your Interactive Math Notebook (IMN).

In class on Friday, students reviewed before taking the Rounding Money Quiz.  Then, students subscribed to this course page to receive daily assignment alerts to your email address.  Then students filled out the online questionnaire.  We also began setting up our new Aeries accounts.
