you have to be an example to be a leader show somebody the way so they can follow you leadership is helping others up encourage them to do better you lead by example and not by your words everybody here at this school offers a different style of leadership they try to fit us into a leadership that is most connected to us I went from 8th grade to 12th grade here it was coming into a space where everybody's a family it's out of the norm the teachers are the best part you have staff who cares for you it's always going to be there for you I don't see students not afraid to speak up or find somebody to engage with there's a great support system here our lives are very complicated and students can be dealing with so much all of us as staff were very aware of that you went to a larger School you might end up being a small fish in a big pond whereas here we have a lot of 1-on-1 with our students just to engage just to talk just an extension of their family my oldest was it in a much larger high school it was so impersonal just decided that it wasn't the place for him and it wasn't where he was going to get the attention that he needed academically even if I don't teach them they come and visit and they say hi mazes but we're small that we kind of know who's in the building it takes students that don't typically perform well in traditional setting and it provides them an opportunity to thrive in an educational environment interviewed here walked around the campus here and I was able to notice that driving their explosive they have vibrant personalities and they're showing character sportsmanship shows a lot gives them that motivation and that drive to want to do well in school I've been in the soccer team for 3 years already since my freshman year became more talkative I was I'll talk to the person we have basketball volleyball I'm a part of the track team in the basketball team and if it's me well by keeping my grades on top we made history we were the first team to win a tournament at this school the students learned real world academics and how to transition into adulthood we focus on Project based learning that's what helps students engage really deeply with whatever content area we're teaching we have College and Career Affairs where do you see yourself in the future after they graduate with us if their goal is to attend a cal theater you see that is an pretending that they have giving us work that is way beyond our grades let us know how college is going to be I teach juvenile law where these students are actually getting college credit as we speak I partake in what's called skills USA in their criminal justice I've gone to Regional and state competitions through that program as well you're getting your child into an active school so putting them in areas where they can succeed in an environment that's conducive to their success is amazing and I've talked to parents and they're like my child has a a bee an A in your math class it gets recognized when our students do have those little accomplishments even if it's bringing your C up to a b passing that test the students feel proud and accomplished we teach that it's okay to take charge we bring the best out of the students that a lot of people don't know that's inside these students I've seen so many stories of students coming in and struggling at other schools and they come here and they do um this 360 and they get sense of worth here can feel like they really belong here Summit leadership accomplishes all of that what I thought was my once quiet child I have watched Payton become a phenomenal leader here we're all very close together even when though we're very different from each other we get students coming in parents bringing in food for us and it's just a really big family community for a bunch of older brothers and sisters for a lot of these young students here hopefully get them on the right track for a successful future we're good at what we do here we've have proven success we are are really respectful young ladies and gentlemen we show leadership on our campus that's number 1 thing and also compassion I feel most like a leader when I help people and when I make them feel valued when is alone and I want to be that person in there to help them
