Career Pathways

SLA has a strong focus on public service which drives the culture of the school as seen by students’ uniforms and during the morning and afternoon formations. Formation is a time when all high school students come together to share announcements, celebrate the success of their peers, and practice using their leadership skills in a formal setting.

All public service courses count as college preparatory elective credits for high school graduation as recognized by the California Department of Education and the Regents of the University of California. These courses are taught by industry professionals with extensive experience who are highly qualified teachers as deemed by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

MILITARY/LAW PATHWAY

The Military/Law Pathway provides students with the knowledge and skills they will need to pass law enforcement or military entrance requirements and/or enter a Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. Students receive specialized training to prepare for the entrance exams such as the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). Law enforcement instruction is based on Peace Officer Standards and Trainings (POST) which is taken from the state approved academy for law enforcement. SLA also partners with the California Cadet Corps to deliver high quality instruction in the classroom, participate in competitions, and attend leadership training camps to earn rank promotions.

FIRE PATHWAY

Students earn industry certifications and college credit in courses offered under the Fire Pathway. SLA partners with Victor Valley College (VVC) to certify students in areas such as first aid and CPR as well as earn college credit for the VVC Fire Academy. The Fire Pathway also participates in competitions with SkillsUSA where students practice the skills they have learned by competing with students from other schools. Students learn both medical and firefighting sciences to pursue careers as firefighters, emergency medical responders, and more.
